Golden R Ranch is located in the heart of the Central Valley nestled in Roberts Island, a little slice of heaven between Stockton and Tracy. You will gain access to a luscious grasslands with cows, beautiful almond blossoms bursting with color, a colorful lakefront and the glistening Delta water along your side. The natural beauty will make the perfect backdrop for your next photo shoot.
We require that each photographer participates in a tour so that s/he can get the lay of the land before the first shoot.
The single session rate is based on one client/immediate family group. This is a rate per client or per small family group for up to 90 minutes. Extended family members will be charged an additional fee.
The photographer can set up in one reserved location on the ranch for at least two hour, which should allow up to three mini-sessions each hour (roughly 20 minutes per hour). We will set out signs to direct clients. Styling and staging included in price, as requested.
Filming is allowed as well for a daily rate.
*Please let us know about any special requests at the time of booking. If staffing is available, we will attempt to fulfill same-day requests.
Additional rates apply for the use of the following props (for staging purposes only).
1966 Ford Mustang - $20
1929 Ford Roadster Bucket Tee - $20
1971 Chevy C10 Pickup Truck - $20
Jeep Wrangler - $20
Ranch Cows - $40 (Up to 20 mins)
Tractors - $20
What are your hours of operation?
Golden R Ranch Photography Studio is open 7 days a week. We welcome both amateur and professional photographers, as well as single client/family sessions, mini-sessions, groups, clubs, and workshops.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Venmo, cash or checks made out to Golden R.
How do I book a session?
You can book your tour and/or session by texting Jacqueline at 209-915-3772. On your first visit, we’ll arrange a brief tour so you can learn where to check in and what is available throughout the ranch. Once you know the ropes, you are free to bring your vision to life! This tour is mandatory for all first time photographers.
What is a single session?
A single session is up to 90 minutes with one client or client family/couple, wandering the ranch. The rate is per client, even if you don’t use the full 90 minutes. For instance, if you spend 60 minutes photographing a senior, then 30 minutes on a maternity shoot, those would be two separate single sessions – unless they’re in the same family. Still not sure? If your clients are splitting a single fee with you, they can split ours as well, otherwise each group owes separately.
What is a mini-session?
Mini-sessions are in one reserved location on the ranch, paid by the hour (two hour minimum), with up to three client sessions each hour. We will make a sign to direct clients to your chosen area and we can arrange special parking for distant locations.
What if I want to book more than three clients per hour for my mini-session?
Unfortunately, we do not allow it. We learned that 20 minutes is the optimal number for client overlap, allowing everyone to flow smoothly in and out of the ranch, and get the most from their session.
Do you provide photographers?
No. We are a photography location, and we welcome all professional and amateur photographers. We do not specifically contract with or endorse any specific photographers.
How far in advance do I need to book? If availability allows, we accept same day appointments.
Would you ever trade sessions for props?
Can I reserve props? Yes, within reason. Please tell Jacqueline when you book if you’re interested in specific props for your shoot. We will have a variety of farm equipment, as well as specific vehicles, tractors and animals. We will put out a sign to let the other photographers know you’ve requested that item during your session time. We just ask that you use the reserved props first during your session, so that they can be made available again for other photographers as soon as possible.
Do I need to reserve the tractors? And where are they?
Our tractors are working ranch tractors, but we can arrange to have one in the barn for you to use. If you stumble upon a tractor (or any other vehicle) that is not in use, you are welcome to use it in your photo. If you would like to reserve a tractor in a specific location (or do not want a tractor in a specific location), please let us know when you book your session, or before you arrive. This way we can check for any conflicts with previous requests, and be sure we have a staff member available to move the tractor and put it back. There is a charge to move a tractor or reserve it for a specific spot.
Can I bring my own props?
Absolutely! However, please make sure that you take your props with you upon completing your shoot as we do not have a formal lost and found process.
Can I use confetti/glitter/etc.?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow glitter or confetti due to the negative impact on our fields. It’s messy and dangerous for our ducks and cows.
What should I wear?
The venue is primarily outdoors and does not have heaters or A/C in the barn. Therefore, we suggest dressing to accommodate the weather or at least understand what weather you’re exposing yourself to during that time of year.
Can I change my clothes?
Yes, we have areas on the ranch where you can change your clothes.
Can I bring my pet?
Yes, we love pets and encourage you to take photos of and/or with it. However, please bring bags to pick up after your pet.
Can I have a cow in my photo?
Absolutely. We have several calm, friendly cows on property who are hams for the camera. If you need one of our staff to bring a cow out of pasture for you, or to help you pose a cow for a photo in pasture, there is an additional charge. Cows who stick their heads over a fence or otherwise bring themselves into your photo are no charge.
What about my horse?
Yes, you can bring your own horse. However, we will need a staff member there to ensure safety regulations are met. Please let Jacqueline know about it upon booking the session.
Can I sit on a cow?
Sorry, but you cannot sit on our cows. Our insurance company says no and it’s best for the cow. You are welcome to stand next to them, pet them, give them hugs, etc.
What if it rains?
We have several locations that are covered or barns that are indoor. However, we understand that the majority of our photographers want the outdoor scenery and natural light, so there is no charge to cancel your session due to inclement weather. There are few areas of the ranch that are paved roads, so we recommend bringing shoes that you can get a bit muddy.
What if I have to cancel?
There is no charge for cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance, or due to inclement weather. If you cancel 48 hours or less before your appointment date with expected good weather, you are responsible for the full charge for that canceled session/mini-session hour.
